The National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC) was established by Decree No. 3 of 1975 and amended by Decree No. 5 of 1987 (now Cap 248 Laws of the Federation 1990). It is a Federal Government organ charged, with the responsibility of coordination, development and promotion of the Living Arts and Culture of Nigeria at national and international fora.
VISION
To use culture as a cornerstone to build a solid nation where the citizens shall see its cultural diversity as a source of strength.
MISSION STATEMENT
The National Council for Arts and Culture shall be committed to the development and promotion of the living Arts and Cultures of Nigeria, using it as resources for national integration and unity as well as to serve as catalyst for sustainable growth and development of the Nation.
OUR GOAL
In line with our vision and mission, the NCAC is refocusing its programmes and projects towards positively improving the perception about culture and cultural activities, as serious business opportunities capable of job creation, poverty alleviation, curbing rural urban drift and economic empowerment.
MANDATE/SCHEDULE OF DUTY OF THE COUNCIL
Drawing from its enabling Law, the Council has the following mandate/schedule
• To promote and foster the appreciation, revival and development of Nigeria’s Arts and Culture
• To plan and co-ordinate cultural activities and foster the development of Literary, Visual and Performing Arts in Nigeria
• To promote our Arts and Crafts through specialized Exhibitions such as pottery, textiles, fibre crafts, wood designs, Brass works etc.
• To establish with the approval of the Honourable Minister, Cultural Centres.
• To promote skills acquisition and youth empowerment through our cultural industries.
• To promote Nigerian Indigenous Games and sports
• To coordinate national cultural events amongst the 36 States and FCT.
• To promote research, documentation and publication of Nigerian living Arts and Culture.
• Any other assignment given by the Honourable Minister.
STRUCTURE OF THE COUNCIL
The structure of the Council comprises the supervising Minister, The Board and the Management.

The Board
The Board is responsible for setting out polices in line with the overall objectives of the organization taking due cognizance of government policy directives as provided by the Honourable Minister. While the Board supervises the policy direction, the Management is responsible for the day to day operation of the Council. Presently, the Council has a 7-man Board membership chaired by Chief Ebenezer Babatope, OFR.
