CITATION

 

Mwajim Malgwi Maidugu was born in the then Biu Division (now Hawul Local Government Area) of Bornu State in 1951.


He attended Marama primary school from where he proceeded to Borno Teachers’ College and obtained his Grade II Teachers’ certificate in 1971.

 

Thereafter, he proceeded to the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1973 where he bagged a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Fine Arts with a Second Class Upper Division. In pursuit of further academic excellence, he added a Post Graduate Diploma in Education and capped his educational qualification with a Master’s Degree in Art Education from Ahmadu  Bello University, Zaria in 1982.

 

In his quest to give back what society has given his working career as a teacher in  State College of Education in 1978 and later transferred after his post graduate studies to a lecturership position in University of Maiduguri and risen to the position of Lecturer I in 1986.

 

Driven by the interest he has in the arts and culture and the need to contribute at the national level, he joined the National Council for Arts and Culture as an Assistant Director in the Department of Creative Arts in 1989.

 

Through dint of hardwork, he rose to the position of Deputy Director and Head of Creative Arts in 1994. Also in the course of his career in National Council for Arts and Culture he acted as a Director and Chief Executive Officer which culminated in his confirmation as the Director and Chief Executive Officer on 2nd February, 2006.

 

From then on, he moved the council to greater heights through his foresight and reform oriented programmes and projects. Below are some of his achievements to date:

 

Successfully coordinated the most colorful and glamorous festival at NAFEST 2004 in the history of the National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFEST) since inception.

 

Successful take off of most of Council’s National Research Centres as well as Crafts Development centers.

 

Ensured maximum utilization of human resources thereby motivating staff in giving their best towards the upliftment of the Council.

 

His approach/attitude to work has endeared him amongst his colleagues and all the members of the 36 states of the Federation and FCT to the extent that Chief Executives of Culture Meetings he has presided over from the 19th to 34th edition has been most cordial and fulfilling.

 

With the support of authorities, he secured a befitting Office space for the Council - September, 2007.

 

He was also appointed General Manager, Operations, Abuja Carnival in 2005 and same for 2006 and Director for same in 2007.

 

Mr. Maidugu is relentless in the pursuit of goals and set objectives and is never inhibited by his position but puts the welfare of his members of staff close to his chest.

 

For his sterling achievements as Executive Director / CEO of the Council for Arts & Culture, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria in 2010 renewed his tenure for another Four (4) years.

 

He has spent greater part of his life in advancing the course of Nigeria’s Arts and Culture at home and abroad. Worthy of note is his participation at both FESTAC ’77 Exhibition and British High Commission Exhibition in 1977. Similarly, his work has taken him to Ghana, Togo, Benin Republic Burkina Faso, Morocco, Egypt, Pakistan, India, Brazil, Germany and London among others.

 

He has been opportuned to attend several courses both locally and internationally. Married with five children, Mwajim Malgwi Maidugu is a member of several professional organizations and enjoys traveling, reading, collecting unique works of arts and assisting the needy.

 

Mr. Maidugu is indeed a great and silent achiever, an astute administrator who is patient, unassuming and believes in hardwork, perseverance, loyalty and perfection.
